Teaser video
One of the best ways to promote the TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC) is by sharing our 2024 TDSRC teaser video (coming soon). The video highlights the key features of the Club. You can share the video on your library’s social media platforms, put it on your library’s website or send it by email to your school and community contacts.

Social media is a great way to promote the TDSRC and let parents know that they can register their kids for the Club.
We have official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts for the TDSRC. Parents and caregivers are the primary target audience for these platforms. We want them to see that the TDSRC is accessible, welcoming, engaging, fun, inclusive, inspiring and flexible!
If you haven’t already done so, please follow us on social media to keep up to date with our latest news and events. You can also share your library posts with us for amplification. The official social media usernames for the TDSRC are @ TDSRC.CLETD for Facebook, @ TDSRC_CLETD for Instagram and @ TDSRC_CLETD for Twitter. The official hashtag is #TDSRC. We also have social media banners
Here are some ways that you can help us grow our community of readers across Canada:
- Like and follow our national Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages
- Invite your network—parents, family and friends—to like us, too
- Comment on, like and share our posts
- Write a personal review of the program, or encourage families who have participated in the past to write a review
- Use the @mention or tag us when you post relevant content about the TDSRC
Additionally, consider using your library’s social media to:
- build excitement in anticipation of the TDSRC heading into June
- encourage TDSRC registration
- run contests
- offer literacy tips for parents, and encourage discussion with your patrons
- connect and collaborate with other participating libraries across the country
Promote the Club on your library’s website
Use your library’s website to promote the TDSRC. Ask your web team to create a special page, banner or icon for the TDSRC. On that page, you can include information on the Club, and you can link kids and parents directly to our website.
Promote in schools
Forming a partnership with your local schools is a great way to promote the TDSRC and reach more kids. Contact local schools to promote this summer’s Club—and remember to share the teaser video whenever you can!
Presenting to schools
We’ve designed resources that you can download and use in presentations to classes, whether you are conducting them virtually or in person.
- Join the Club! Presentation: Highlights the important elements of the 2023 Club. You can add content to the presentation as desired to fit your local program.
- TDSRC Silly Story: To use the Silly Story, prompt kids for a list of words, and add them to the story before sharing your screen with the class.
- TDSRC Escape Game: A short story where the class can try to solve the riddles to help a character escape from the library. Click on the links at the bottom to advance to the selected page.
- Aliens Have Landed! Trivia: New for 2024. See instructions here. A PowerPoint trivia game where kids will guess letters to reveal the answers to space trivia. Kids must guess the answer before an alien appears on the screen. Includes encouragement to join the Club.
- You can use the TD Summer Reading Club 2022 Impact Report to demonstrate the value of the TDSRC to participating children. (2023 Impact Report - coming soon)
- PowerPoint template: You can use our branded template if you prefer to create your own presentation.
In addition to showcasing the TDSRC printed materials to classes during your visit and encouraging registration, consider adding a fun element tailored to the age range of the group. You could select an activity to do with the class, read a picture book or give a book talk from our recommended reads.
Distributing promotional TDSRC material
Check with school staff ahead of time to see whether they are accepting printed materials for distribution. If they are, consider making a sample package of TDSRC materials for the school’s teacher-librarians, teachers or principals that they can show their students. We’ve prepared customizable memos explaining the benefits of the TDSRC, which can be sent out to schools along with the printed materials.
The top recommended reads brochure contains information for parents and caregivers, and the agamograph is a fun and simple way to promote the Club to kids. Consider distributing both items in your local schools to promote the Club.
Promote to parents with babies and preschoolers
Our pre-reader notebook is designed for parents and caregivers to use with young children (ages 0–5). It’s important to highlight that the program will even benefit babies—be sure to encourage everyone to join the Club!
Consider organizing visits to child care centres, where you can highlight that the notebook includes activity ideas based on five skill-building practices—talking, singing, playing, writing and reading—for them to engage in with pre-readers.
We’ve prepared a customizable memo that you can send to child care centres:
We’ve also created a sample program plan for visits by staff; it includes age-appropriate book and activity recommendations that fit this year’s theme.
Multilingual welcome message for parents and caregivers
We’ve created a simple message to explain the TDSRC to parents and caregivers. It’s available for you to download and print as needed, in English and French as well as these languages:
At the bottom of each message, there is space for you to add your library’s URL and logo.
Decorate your library
New illustrations by our 2024 artist, Audrey Malo, will be available on our images page. Staff can use the images on display boards, windows, program flyers or anywhere else in the library to advertise the Club.
Follow us on Pinterest for inspiring display ideas. Our recommended reads page is a great place to start when creating book displays in your library.
Get Your Summer Read On Day
Libraries can host events and activities to mark the opening of Club registration at their locations on any day from June 10 to June 24, 2024. We’ll provide more information, resources and ideas for activities by the beginning of May on our staff newsfeed .
Advertise in your local newspaper
Send copies of the program and promotional materials, along with information about the Club and the TDSRC website, to your local newspaper. If your budget allows, consider buying space in the paper to run one of our print ad templates . Please be sure to adhere to the brand guidelines when designing your ad.
Local television and radio
Send your local cable and radio stations a brief description of the Club and ask them to encourage parents and caregivers to register their kids. For television broadcasts, take the print materials and explain how children can register, collect stickers and track reading in notebooks and on the website.
